In recent years, inspired by China's medical reform policy, Chinese drug makers closed more record-breaking licensing deals as they enhanced their R&D capability and sped up efforts to go global. In 2022, there were 181 licensing deals in China’s biotech space. Among them, 45 were between domestic companies, 105 in-licensed new assets into China, and 31 out-licensed deals by Chinese players with a foreign partners. Among the 105 in-licensing deals, 65  (62%) came from innovative biopharma and biotech enterprises in North America. Among the 31 out-licensing deals,  the top one was close to 2.8 billion US dollars, and almost all of the licensees were from North America.​
